Managing Online Forums: Everything You Need to Know to Create and Run Successful Community Discussion Boards/by Patrick O'Keefe (Author)
Description
Every day, millions of users log on to their favorite online forums and interact with others to get advice and discuss everything from the latest news and trends to their hobbies to their professions to whatever else strikes their fancy. Administrators have to lead these communities, deal with difficult users, and choose moderators. Legal constraints, spammers, and technical issues can turn the excitement of running an online community into chaos. With the right guidance, however, running forums can be a pleasure. Patrick O'Keefe has spent years developing and managing online communities. Now, he shows readers how to make the right decisions about every aspect of their forums, including:
choosing a name and domain name * picking the right software * deciding on user options like avatars and private messaging * setting guidelines and dealing with violators * ensuring that posts stay on topic * settling online disputes among users * involving their users and keeping the site interesting Managing Online Forums is the one book that shows site owners and administrators how to create a safe and entertaining community that users will return to again and again.

Druuna. Issue 1: Morbus Gravis I

Druuna. Issue 1: Morbus Gravis I
66 pages | PDF | 40.8MB

Druuna is a popular erotic science fiction and fantasy comic book character created by Italian cartoonist Paolo Eleuteri Serpieri, featured prominently in Metal Hurlant and Heavy Metal magazines. Druuna is the main character, and has starred in eight volumes of the Morbus Gravis series between 1985 and 2003: Morbus Gravis, Morbus Gravis 2: Druuna, Creatura, Carnivora, Mandragora, Aphrodisia, The Forgotten Planet and Clone. The series is noteworthy for featuring perhaps the most explicit content in terms of both graphic violence and sex in comics[citation needed]. Creatura, in fact, features near-totally explicit sexual penetration, and the three subsequent books feature totally uncensored penetration, but the series returned to a non-explicit depiction of penetration in such scenes with The Forgotten Planet. The main character is also featured in Serpieri's numerous sketchbooks, such as Obsession, Druuna X, Druuna X 2, Croquis, Serpieri Sketchbook, Serpieri Sketchbook 2 and The Sweet Smell of Woman. These books were successful, selling more than a million copies in twelve languages. Serpieri's depiction of well-endowed heroines like Druuna has caused him to be described as "the Master of the Ass".

This Comic Book is presented to you by J_Shaftoe.

MacWorld Magazine - September 2008

MacWorld Magazine - September 2008
Publisher: Mac Publishing, LLC | Number of Pages: 124 | 14.5 MB | PDF

Many magazines devoted to Macintosh computing have come and gone over the years, but Macworld has aged gracefully and become the premier resource for news, reviews, tips, and chatter for the Apple crowd. But far from being a stale grande dame, Macworld continues to pepper its articles and monthly columns by Andy Ihnatko and Christopher Breen with zest, humor, and unbiased viewpoints. The magazine also regularly attracts some of the best writers in the Mac universe, including Photoshop and prepress wizard Bruce Fraser, Quark guru David Blatner, and Adam Engst, editor of the popular TidBits e-newsletter. Their insight and invaluable step-by-step tips help you get the most out of your Mac. But Macworld's bread and butter comes from its heaping helping of reviews on the latest hardware systems, software, monitors, add-on gadgets, and more. They cut to the chase without a lot of fluff, offering review summaries with pros and cons, buying advice, and a rating scale of one to five mice (computer mice, that is).

IN THIS ISSUE

iPhone 2.0
We put the new iPhone 3G and its upgraded software to the test and take a sneak peek at some of the most promising new iPhone applications.

Software Treasures
From handy time-savers to multimedia power tools, stock up on 53 great Mac programs that won't empty your coffers.

Macs Making Inroads in the Enterprise Market
Developers feel they can help get Macs accepted in large businesses.

The iCal Challenge
iCal is the standard against which every other calendar, organizer, and to-do list competes, and in that spirit, we take eight of its popular rivals for a test drive to see how they compare.

Secure Computer and Network Systems: Modeling, Analysis and Design

Secure Computer and Network Systems: Modeling, Analysis and Design

Paperback: 354 pages
Data: March 14, 2008
Format: PDF
Description: Computer and network systems have given us unlimited opportunities of reducing cost, improving efficiency, and increasing revenues, as demonstrated by an increasing number of computer and network applications. Yet, our dependence on computer and network systems has also exposed us to new risks, which threaten the security of, and present new challenges for protecting our assets and information on computer and network systems. The reliability of computer and network systems ultimately depends on security and quality of service (QoS) performance.

This book presents quantitative modeling and analysis techniques to address these numerous challenges in cyber attack prevention and detection for security and QoS, including:
the latest research on computer and network behavior under attack and normal use conditions;
new design principles and algorithms, which can be used by engineers and practitioners to build secure computer and network systems, enhance security practice and move to providing QoS assurance on the Internet;
mathematical and statistical methods for achieving the accuracy and timeliness of cyber attack detection with the lowest computational overhead;
guidance on managing admission control, scheduling, reservation and service of computer and network jobs to assure the service stability and end-to-end delay of those jobs even under Denial of Service attacks or abrupt demands.

Secure Computer and Network Systems: Modeling, Analysis and Design is an up-to-date resource for practising engineers and researchers involved in security, reliability and quality management of computer and network systems. It is also a must-read for postgraduate students developing advanced technologies for improving computer network dependability.

Urban Space And Representation

Pluto Press (2000) / ISBN 0745313493 / 256 pages / PDF / RS / 24MB

This is a really useful text for students trying to get to grips with urban studies. The authors give a challenging but accessible introduction to the ways in which urban theory has met with literary and cultural studies. The book then covers a refreshing range of cities and texts (nice to see more than the usual New York, London, LA) and often the familiar cities (like Paris, New York) are made different through the subjects discussed - Brooklyn and Harlem rather than downtown Manhattan, Parisian banlieues rather than the city of light.

The Boundary Element Method with Programming: For Engineers and Scientists
Publisher: Springer | 494 pages | 2008-05-08 | 3211715746 | PDF | 4,5 Mb

This is a thorough, yet understandable text about the boundary element method (BEM), an attractive alternative to the finite element method (FEM). It not only explains the theory, but also deals with the implementation into computer code written in FORTRAN 95 (software can be freely downloaded). Applications range from potential problems to static and dynamic problems in elasticity and plasticity. The book also addresses the issue of fast solution of large scale problems, using parallel processing hardware. Special topics such as the treatment of inclusions, heterogeneous domains and changing geometry are also addressed. Most chapters contain exercises and this makes the book suitable for teaching. Applications of the method to industrial problems are shown. The book is designed for engineers and scientists that want to understand how the method works and to apply the method and solve real problems.
